After slight delay, we resume play! (Includes future schedule)

CLASS AA & A did not call in scores
CLASS D did not play

(3) Ardsley def. (6) Sleepy Hollow 3-0

(1) Rye Neck def. (9) Croton-Harmon 3-2

(2) Valhalla def. (10) Briarcliff 3-1

(4) Keio def. (5) Albertus Magnus 3-2

(1) Rye Neck will host (4) Keio Thursday, 11/3 at 4:30 p.m.

ZACCHIO SEZ: Ardsley scared me when I heard they snuck past (14) Westlake 3-2, but thankfully they showed what they are †made of tonight, with a sweep of Sleepy Hollow. Looks like Dave Ponterio's girls have shaken off the first-round jitters. I said from the beginning that Rye Neck was in an odd predicament; they are a good team, in a mediocre bracket, with the fortune of a top seed as a result of a weak schedule. A top seed with a 17-2 record winning their opening match 3-2 usually doesn't lay the thickest foundation of confidence, especially when they beat a team that was just 4-11 during the regular season. The Panthers are going to have to do a lot better against (4) Keio if they want to change my opinion. Speaking of the Unicorns (by the way, best†name of any school), Keio did not disappoint in sticking to their M.O. of not being able to finish out games. Hosting the (5) Falcons, Keio dropped the first set 25-20 before tying it with a 25-21 win. Keio squeezed out game three 26-24, tanked game four 25-15 and then clung to life to squeeze out another in game five 26-24. Class C is the perfect example of why you can't judge a team by their record, and why I wish there was a big tournament at the end of the year that combined the best†schools in the Section, and not divide them into classes. There is no reason a team should go 4-11 and make the playoffs, let alone be a nine seed. Even if you stacked your season, you shouldn't make it to the postseason after winning just over a quarter of your games. While Magnus is not the greatest team, they balanced their schedule well and competed in the games they lost and won the games they were "supposed" to win. Unfortunately, it was not enough to send them to the semis, but it was a hell of a run Falcons.†

Quarterfinal games from Mon, 10/31 moved to Tues, 11/1 unless specified otherwise.

Quarterfinal games from Tues, 11/1 moved to Wed, 11/2

EDITOR'S NOTE: Thank you to all who have written and complimented on the site, I can't tell you how much it means. I really do this for you guys - the coaches who dedicate their time, the parents who make the effort to go see their kids play, and of course, the players. As a former high school athlete myself (not volleyball), I know how it feels to be rewarded, if only slightly, after all the practices and matches you kill yourself for each day.
