Huskies advance to Regional Semifinals!

Section 1 volleyball is off to a good start in the Regional playoffs, thanks to the Huskies of Harrison HS, who became the first team from the area to advance to the Regional semifinals.

Technically Haldane is the first, but that's only because they did not have a Regional quarterfinal game.

Harrison disposed of Horseheads rather easily, winning 3-1 in sets of 25-17, 16-25, 25-18, 25-17. Standout senior captain setter and Con Edison Scholar Athlete, Jessica Segal led the Huskies with 11 kills and 27 assists in the win. Fellow captain, six-footer Lily Stokoe came up big on both sides of the ball with 24 digs on defense and a team-high 15 kills on offense.

"Jessica is always a solid player for us, and our outside (hitters) really worked hard today," coach Candy Light said. "Lily is always such a dominant middle for us."

Other stars for Harrison on Wednesday night included Elisa Santelia, who was right behind Stokoe with 23 digs, and Betsey Sanchez with seven kills.

Harrison advances to the Regional semifinal on Saturday, Nov. 12 against Cornwall Central of Section 9. That match will be played at 12:20 p.m. at Bard College in Annadale on Husdon, NY. The trip is about an hour and 45 minutes from Harrison High School.

With a win against Cornwall, Harrison will advance to the State Final Four in Glens Falls, NY. The Huskies will play a pool play round on Saturday, Nov. 19. I'm not completely sure how they determine who will advance to the State championship on Sunday, Nov. 20. As soon as I hear anything, I will let you know!

The State tournament will be held at the Glens Falls Civic Center from Nov. 18-20. The address to the center is: 1 Civic Center Plz in Glens Falls, NY 12801. The trip is about three an a half hours from Harrison High School.

A dinner will be held on Nov. 18 to introduce the teams and get everybody settled in and aquainted; there will be no games played. Opening ceremonies for the AM wave begin at 8:00 a.m. on Saturday, Nov. 19.

I will post a list of nearby hotels in Glens Falls soon!
