Official Bracket Seeds

(1) Arlington, (2) Suffern, (3) North Rockland, (4) Clarkstown North receive byes.
(5) Clarkstown South def. (12) Roy C. Ketcham
(6) Scarsdale def. (11) Mamaroneck
(7) John Jay-East Fishkill def. (10) Carmel
(8) New Rochelle def. (9) Mahopac

(1) Arlington def. (8) New Rochelle

(2) Suffern def. (7) John Jay-East Fishkill

(3) North Rockland def. (6) Scarsdale

(5) Clarkstown South def. (4) Clarkstown North

(1) Arlington def. (5) Clarkstown South

(2) Suffern def. (3) North Rockland

(1) Arlington def. (2) Suffern for the third consecutive year.

WHY: The only "upset" here is South over North, but to anyone who has been following the season this year, this is not a true upset. Not only is South a much, much stronger team, but I don't know how they fell to a no. 5 seed, even over North Rockland. Speaking of the Red Raiders, their match against Suffern was very close to call. They split the season series 1-1, each winning at home; and with the Mounties owning home-court advantage and experience, I give the nod to them.

(16) Ossining def. (17) Poughkeepsie in outbracket

(15) Somers def. (18) Port Chester in outbracket

(1) Ursuline and (2) Harrison receive byes.
(3) Yonkers def. (14) Saunders
(4) Panas def. (13) Gorton
(5) John Jay-Cross River def. (12) Tappan Zee
(6) Fox Lane def. (11) Beacon
(7) Horace Greeley def. (10) Brewster
(9) Yorktown def. (8) Riverside

(1) Ursuline def. (16) Ossining

(2) Harrison def. (15) Somers

(3) Yonkers def. (14) Saunders

(4) Panas def. (13) Gorton

(5) John Jay-Cross River def. (12) Tappan Zee

(6) Fox Lane def. (11) Beacon

(7) Horace Greeley def. (10) Brewster

(9) Yorktown def. (8) Riverside

(1) Ursuline def. (9) Yorktown

(2) Harrison def. (7) Horace Greeley

(6) Fox Lane def. (3) Yonkers

(4) Panas def. (5) John Jay-Cross River

(4) Panas def. (1) Ursuline

(6) Fox Lane def. (2) Harrison

(4) Panas def. (6) Fox Lane

WHY: I know I said that for Panas to have a chance at winning it all, they needed to not draw the no. 4 seed, but that was before I found out there were 18 teams in the bracket. And although this is by far the toughest bracket out of the five, the Panthers still have a very good chance. John Jay and Ursuline are no easy contests, let alone back-to-back, but as I've said before, Panas is extremely good and I don't think that Ursuline has played a rigorous enough schedule to truly convince me. Although, Ursuline has done exceptionally well in their tournaments during the regular season. This will be the best match of this bracket, and among my top 10, most likely top 5 for all classes. The Foxes are in the best position for any low seed. A good team, Fox Lane should easily beat Gorton, then had the fortune of drawing Yonkers in the quarterfinals. Yonkers only lost their season opener this year and has the only male of any team, but like many teams, Yonkers fluffed their season with weak opponents. Speaking of which, Harrison. Like I said, the defending champion Huskers obviously have the experience, especially with Jessica Segal returning, but their regular season schedule was not very challenging. To be honest, I really wouldn't be surprised to see Joel Sanford's girls walk away with the whole thing from the no. 6 seed.

(1) Pelham receives a bye

(2) Eastchester def. (15) Pleasantville

(3) Ardsley def. (14) Westlake

(4) Hen Hud def. (13) Nanuet

(5) Kennedy def. (12) Pearl River

(6) Sleepy Hollow def. (11) Lourdes
(7) Byram Hills def. (10) Rye

(8) Edgemont def. (9) Putnam Valley

(1) Pelham def. (8) Edgemont

(2) Eastchester def. (7) Byram Hills

(3) Ardsley def. (6) Sleepy Hollow

(4) Hen Hud def. (5) Kennedy

(1) Pelham def. (4) Hen Hud

(3) Ardsley def. (2) Eastchester

(1) Pelham def. (3) Ardsley

WHY: I don't know if I'm more puzzled or upset. Upset that Hen Hud and Pelham can't meet in the championship, or puzzled at how Eastchester is a no. 2 seed or that Hen Hud fell to a no. 4. Like in class AA, some of these may seem like upsets, but to those who follow the league - not so much. The good news for Ardsley and Eastchester is that their chances of becoming the first team other than Hen Hud to win the title in over a decade greatly increases by the semifinal match up. Rather than worry about facing one in the semis and than the other powerhouse, Pelham in the championship, one of the two will kill off the other in the opposing semifinal. Dave Ponterio put together a great season with his girls and I can't see them not making it to the finals. If Hen Hud wins their 12th consecutive title this year, Diane Swertfager should be shot straight into the volleyball hall of fame. Going into what she called a "rebuilding year" during the preseason, Swertfager put together one of the toughest regular season schedules in the section and still came away with a terrific season. Now, entering sections, she faces the toughest road to the sectional crown (again, out of teams that actually stand a chance). Nanuet will be an easy win, Kennedy was undefeated most of the year, but with a soft schedule; Pelham speaks for itself, and as I just mentioned, Ardsley is an underdog many have counted out.

(1) Rye Neck, (2) Valhalla, (3) Hastings receive byes.

(4) Keio def. (13) North Salem

(5) Albertus Magnus def. (12) Woodlands

(6) Dobbs Ferry def. (11) Dover

(10) Briarcliff def. (7) Blind Brook

(8) Pawling def. (9) Croton-Harmon

(1) Rye Neck def. (8) Pawling

(2) Valhalla def. (10) Briarcliff

(3) Hastngs def. (6) Dobbs Ferry

(5) Albertus Magnus def. (4) Keio

(1) Rye Neck def. (5) Albertus Magnus

(2) Valhalla def. (3) Hastings

(2) Valhalla def. (1) Rye Neck

WHY: I don't know why, but I've had a gut feeling that Albertus Magnus would spark a little magic at sections pretty much all year. With the brackets out, the Falcons have just the seed to do it. Keio may have flirted with an undefeated record, but with a tail-off at the end of the year and a reputation for having trouble finishing games, Mallary McFadden and her Falcons could just fly past the Unicorns and into the final four.

(1) Haldane def. (4) Solomon Schechter
(2) Tuckahoe def. (3) Hamilton

(1) Haldane def. (2) Tuckahoe

WHY: The only bracket I predicted to perfection (surprise!), there's no sense in saying anything different: class D is a joke, and all Haldane needs to do is show up to win it. 'Nuff said.

EDITOR'S NOTE: All in all, I don't think the predicitions were too bad for a first-time, especially since they were picked a week before the season ended. Again, coaches/players, please do not take any offense to anything you read; me saying you had a good season with a weak schedule is just my opinion based off of what I've seen from other teams. I wish everyone the best of luck and I look forward to watching some truly awesome and exciting volleyball!
