A LOOK AT TODAY... The first several games called in today were all shutouts, until I had the fortune of taking the North/South Clarkstown rivalry. South dropped the first two sets 25-22, 25-22, putting them on the brink of elimination, and an upset (despite their seed). John Pardy's girls responded with three consecutive wins, 25-22, 27-25, 25-22. Pardy called the game, "A typical North/South matchup." Adding, "It's very difficult to beat them four times in a season, which were were fortunate to do this year." (Another reason why it was easy to predict South beating North). (2) Eastchester went the distance with (7) Byram Hills, going back and forth in a 25-17, 21-25, 25-23, 25-27, 25-22 win. I said from the beginning that Eastchester probably didn't deserve a No. 2 seed over Hen Hud or Ardsley, and perhaps now we're starting to see why. The top seeds should never really be challenged until they reach the semifinals - whether that means they earn a bye in the first-round and then face a team in the quarters, or they face two teams before reaching the semis. Harrison is proving me wrong thus far, sweeping their two match ups. But the real test will come tomorrow, when they face (6) Fox Lane. The two split the regular season series 1-1, each going the full five sets, 3-2. The Huskies have a leg up with the home court advantage, but they will really need to bring their A game if they want to 'sly'de past the Foxes. There is a reason I picked Fox Lane in my championship - Joel Sanford have a very talented team on both sides of the ball, and above all, are very balanced top to bottom. Much like other top schools like Pelham and Ursuline, Fox Lane does not have one superstar they rely on; Leslie Hearns, Dana Fang, Sammy Jo Tracy, and the list goes on, give the Foxes a number of targets each match. In what should be another great match, either the Foxes will complete my "Cinderella" pick to the championship, or Harrison will prove me wrong in not winning big games. Only time will tell...

MATCH OF THE WEEK: No question here, it's (1) Pelham vs. (4) Hen Hud. In a rematch of last year's class B championship, Pelham swept the Sailors 3-0 in the regular season match at home, becoming the first team in over a decade to do so. Hen Hud has won the last 11 class B titles and Pelham has never won one in the school's history. It's just too bad these two can't meet in the big show again.
