STATES 2011 Haldane advances to State championship!

GLENS FALLS You can tell by the way Haldane played that they wanted to take down Randolph... bad. After disposing of Edison in easy sets of 25-12, 25-12, the Blue Devils squared off against Randolph in a rematch of last year's championship.

Randolph jumped out to a hot start, leading Haldane 8-1 before coach Melissa Rossano called a timeout. Haldane responded with a romping of Randolph, eventually taking the lead late in the game and winning 25-21. The adrenaline from the match carried over into the next set where the returning finalists went into overtime, battling back and forth, point after point like a ping pong match.

Even with three State matches going on at once across the Center's floor, the entire crowd focused their attention on one. Parents from the other matches were staring, going, "Look at this match!" With others on the edge of the seat after each incredible save from both Haldane and Randolph, "Oh! She got it! Wow!"

Haldane pulled away with a 27-25 win, giving me all the confidence in the world that they can redeem last year's loss. My collegue, Vinny Mercogliano called Haldane, "One of the streakiest teams he's ever seen," a statement I told him going into the match. Tomorrow should be an exciting morning of volleyball!

Haldane was the only school during the AM heat (Classes AA, A, D) to win every set.

Look for Vinny's article on the Haldane game at and in The Journal News tomorrow!
